The three ways across
- Star Alliance — via Aeroplan or LifeMiles. Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian and Brussels all fly into Europe from dozens of U.S. gateways. Air Canada Aeroplan adds no fuel surcharges, and Avianca LifeMiles prices Star awards low with tiny taxes — the two cheapest total-cost doors into Europe, including Lufthansa First.
- SkyTeam — via Flying Blue. Air France and KLM to Paris and Amsterdam, priced by Flying Blue, whose monthly Promo Rewards discount a rotating set of transatlantic routes by 20–50%. Delta One flash sales occasionally drop business to ~50,000 SkyMiles round trip.
- Oneworld — via Iberia Avios. Iberia routinely prices the cheapest transatlantic award of any program (US ↔ Madrid), with far lower surcharges than British Airways. Book the same Oneworld metal through Iberia, Aer Lingus or Qatar — never long-haul BA — to avoid the fuel fees.

When a Promo Reward hits your route, a ~$4,000 business seat prices near 50,000 miles + ~$250:

2. Aeroplan, surcharge-free — the reliable one.
A ~$4,200 one-way business seat on Lufthansa or Swiss runs ~60,000 Aeroplan + only ~$150 in taxes:

3. Lufthansa First via LifeMiles — the aspirational pick.
Lufthansa first class opens to partners close to departure. A ~$9,000 seat books at ~87,000 LifeMiles + ~$100:
