Denver to Europe on Points: Best Award Routes & Cards

By Krit · Updated · How we research

Award prices are dynamic and change daily. Treat every number here as a dated, typical range and search live before you transfer points.

Denver is a major United hub, but its Europe network is smaller than those of coastal gateways. In winter, the nonstops are United and Lufthansa to Frankfurt and Munich, United and British Airways to London, Icelandair to Reykjavik, and Turkish to Istanbul. Air France's seasonal Paris flight ended on October 10, 2026, and United adds Paris on May 27, 2027. Star Alliance has most of the nonstops, so Aeroplan is the main program for Denver flyers.

Quick answer

  • Cheapest economy route: Icelandair via Reykjavik (a cash fare, or Atmos points on partner seats), or United to Frankfurt or Munich on a low MileagePlus date.
  • Best business-class value: United or Lufthansa DEN–Frankfurt or Munich on Aeroplan for 75,000 points one-way, with no fuel surcharges.
  • Best program to collect: Aeroplan, which books four of DEN's five winter Europe routes and is fed by Amex, Chase, Capital One and Bilt.
  • Best card: Chase Sapphire Reserve, which transfers 1:1 to both United and Aeroplan, the two programs that matter most at DEN.

Best ways to book

Air Canada Aeroplan

Aeroplan prices by distance and adds no fuel surcharges. Since June 1, 2026, business costs 60,000 points up to 4,000 miles and 75,000 for 4,001–6,000 miles on Air Canada and select partners. Every Denver–Europe nonstop is over 4,000 miles (DEN–Frankfurt is about 5,000 and DEN–London about 4,650), so plan on 75,000 one-way in business on United, Lufthansa or Turkish. Feeds: Amex, Chase, Capital One and Bilt, all 1:1.

United MileagePlus

United prices its own flights dynamically, with no fuel surcharges. Saver-level business to Frankfurt or Munich can open well in advance or close to departure. Peak dates often cost more than Aeroplan does for the same United seat. Feeds: Chase 1:1 and Bilt 1:1.

Avianca LifeMiles

LifeMiles books Lufthansa and United with no fuel surcharges. Business to Europe costs about 70,000–92,400 miles one-way after the April 2026 devaluation. LifeMiles often sells miles at a discount, which can help if you're a few thousand short. Feeds: Amex, Capital One, Citi and Bilt. Chase doesn't transfer to LifeMiles.

Air France-KLM Flying Blue

There's no SkyTeam nonstop from Denver in winter, but Flying Blue can still book Air France or KLM with a connection. Standard business is 60,000 miles, with Promo Rewards from 45,000 (September 2026). Check whether Denver is a promo origin that month. Feeds: Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi.

British Airways (Avios) and AAdvantage

BA flies DEN–London, but its own long-haul awards carry steep surcharges. AAdvantage prices BA at 57,500 miles in business on its partner chart (Frequent Miler, June 2026), but you still pay BA's surcharges. Treat BA as a last resort.

Sweet spots from Denver

  1. United Polaris on Aeroplan. 75,000 points one-way with no fuel surcharges for United's DEN–Frankfurt, Munich or London nonstops. It's often cheaper than United charges for the same seat.
  2. Lufthansa to Frankfurt or Munich. Book through Aeroplan or LifeMiles. Lufthansa First isn't available to partner programs right now (Lufthansa stopped releasing it on June 1, 2026), but business award space does appear.
  3. Icelandair via Reykjavik. A low-cost economy option with a free stopover in Iceland. Atmos Rewards members can book Icelandair as a partner.
  4. Turkish to Istanbul. Book with Aeroplan, or with Miles&Smiles through Capital One, Citi or Bilt. From Istanbul you can reach southern and eastern Europe.

Taxes & surcharges

  • Aeroplan, United and LifeMiles: no carrier surcharges, so you pay mainly government taxes.
  • British Airways via Avios: $600–$1,000+ in fees on transatlantic business. Avoid it.
  • Flying Blue: about $200–300 one-way in business on Air France or KLM.
  • Returning from London: the UK's departure tax is steep in premium cabins. A return from Frankfurt or Munich usually costs less in cash.

FAQ
