Flights of 4,001 to 6,000 miles went from 70,000 to 75,000. Air Canada and United are now priced dynamically: they start at 60,000, but Aeroplan's own chart lists a median of 133,800 for Air Canada business in the 0 to 4,000 mile band. Book Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, TAP, LOT or Turkish to get the fixed price.
For 60,000 Aeroplan points plus taxes that usually come in under $200, you can fly Star Alliance business class one-way from the U.S. to Europe. That is a lie-flat seat that often sells for around $4,200. Aeroplan adds no fuel surcharges. At those numbers you get about 6.7¢ per point, roughly 4.4 times our 1.5¢ baseline for Aeroplan. Aeroplan's "select partners" with dynamic pricing are United, Emirates, flydubai, Etihad and a few regional Canadian airlines. Every other partner uses the fixed price above.

The big reason this works is what is missing from the fees. Many programs add hundreds of dollars of carrier-imposed surcharges to European awards. How to book
- Search Air Canada's own site (aircanada.com, book with points) for business space on your dates.
- Check the distance band. Aeroplan prices by the total distance flown, connections included. New York to London or Frankfurt is under 4,000 miles and costs 60,000. Chicago to Frankfurt or New York to Vienna is over 4,000 and costs 75,000. A connection can push a 60,000 route into the 75,000 band.
- Pick a fixed-price partner. Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, TAP, LOT and Turkish price at the chart. United and Air Canada flights can cost far more on the same route.
- Add a stopover if you want one. One stopover on a one-way award costs 5,000 points (for example, a few days in Lisbon or Frankfurt). Stopovers are not allowed in the U.S. or Canada.
- Transfer to Aeroplan only after you find the seat. Points in your card account stay flexible. Once they are Aeroplan points, they stay Aeroplan points.
- Book online and pay the taxes and the CA$39 partner fee. Booking by phone adds a CA$30 fee.
Finding availability
Aeroplan sees Star Alliance partner space well, but you have to search the right way.
- Search Air Canada's own site. Aeroplan shows Air Canada and Star Alliance partners (Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Brussels, TAP, LOT, Turkish, United and more) in one place.
- Cross-check a second engine. United.com shows most of the same partner space. If United can see a Lufthansa or Swiss business seat, Aeroplan usually can too, at the fixed price.
- Use an award-search tool. seats.aero or ExpertFlyer can alert you when business space opens on your dates.
- Search one passenger at a time. Award engines sometimes show 1 seat when they hide 2. Book singles and link the reservations.
- Be flexible ±3 days. Partner business space is thin. An alert plus date flexibility is how you catch it.
Who should do it
This is one of the best-value business-class awards a beginner can book. Partner space is findable, four banks feed the points, and the fees stay low. It suits anyone with Amex, Chase, Capital One or Bilt points who can fly from a gateway inside the 4,000-mile band. The honest counterpoint: 60,000 points takes real spending to earn, partner space is scarce on peak dates and holidays, and if you would never pay $4,200 in cash, part of the "value" is on paper rather than money in your pocket.

How to earn the points
You never have to earn Aeroplan directly. Four banks transfer to it 1:1:
- Chase Ultimate Rewards to Aeroplan: 1:1, instant. Points from the Freedom or Ink Cash cards must first move to a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred account.
- Amex Membership Rewards to Aeroplan: 1:1, up to 48 hours.
- Capital One miles to Aeroplan: 1:1, instant. You need a miles-earning card such as the Venture or Venture X; cash-back cards do not transfer.
- Bilt Rewards to Aeroplan: 1:1, usually immediate (2,000-point minimum).
(Citi ThankYou does not transfer to Aeroplan.)
Transfer bonuses: none is running as of November 6, 2026. The most recent was a 20% bonus from Chase, August 12 to September 30, 2026. Chase ran others in April 2026 and from November 2025 to January 2026, so another is possible. Holders of the Chase Aeroplan card get a permanent extra 10% when they move at least 50,000 Chase points at once, up to 25,000 bonus points a year.
Family Sharing: up to 8 Aeroplan members can pool points for free and book for each other. Aeroplan says creating a new pool is temporarily unavailable; existing pools still work.
A realistic path to 60,000 Aeroplan from a standing start:
- Open one transferable-points card with a large welcome bonus, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Amex Gold or Capital One Venture. Bonuses change often, so check the current offer and spend requirement before you apply.
- Meet the minimum spend on things you would buy anyway.
- Find the seat first, then transfer to Aeroplan.
What the business cabin is like
Aeroplan prices partner business class by distance, so the cabin you get depends on the airline you book. On the major long-haul Star Alliance carriers to Europe (Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, TAP, LOT, Turkish), a transatlantic business seat means a lie-flat bed, lounge access before departure and checked bags. Most newer aircraft also give every seat direct aisle access. You can connect through the partner's hub, and the 5,000-point stopover turns a connection into a short trip. Aeroplan adds no fuel surcharges, so the price you see is close to what you pay.
