Dallas–Fort Worth is American Airlines' largest hub, so most nonstops to Europe from DFW are oneworld flights: American itself plus British Airways, Iberia and Finnair. Air France and Lufthansa add SkyTeam and Star Alliance options to Paris and Frankfurt, and Turkish covers Istanbul. That means a Dallas flyer can book Europe with almost any points currency. The skill is choosing the program that adds the least in surcharges.

Quick answer
- Cheapest economy route: American or Iberia to Madrid or London, booked with AAdvantage miles on an off-peak date (dynamic pricing) or with Iberia Avios. Economy is where cash fares often beat points, so compare first.
- Best business-class value: Air France DFW–Paris on a Flying Blue Promo Reward (business from 45,000 miles on the September 2026 promo routes; 60,000 standard), or partner business on AAdvantage's chart at 57,500 miles one-way.
- Best program to collect: AAdvantage. It's the hub airline's own program, and Citi ThankYou and Bilt transfer to it 1:1.
- Best card: Citi Strata Elite if you want points that can become AAdvantage miles, or the Amex Platinum for Flying Blue, Avios and Aeroplan.

Best ways to book
American AAdvantage
American prices its own flights dynamically, with no award chart. Off-peak economy to Europe can price low, while peak summer business can climb well into six figures. Partner flights (Iberia, Finnair, British Airways, Qatar) still use a chart: 57,500 miles one-way in business from the US to Europe (Frequent Miler, June 2026). Feeds: Citi ThankYou 1:1 (Strata Premier or Strata Elite) and Bilt 1:1. Chase, Amex and Capital One don't transfer to AAdvantage.
Air Canada Aeroplan
Aeroplan uses a distance chart and adds no fuel surcharges. Since June 1, 2026, business class costs 60,000 points for trips up to 4,000 miles and 75,000 for 4,001–6,000 miles on Air Canada and select partners. Every Dallas–Europe nonstop falls in the higher band (DFW–Frankfurt is about 5,100 miles), so plan on 75,000 for Lufthansa to Frankfurt or Turkish to Istanbul. Feeds: Amex, Chase, Capital One and Bilt, all 1:1.
Air France-KLM Flying Blue
Flying Blue's standard business award to Europe is 60,000 miles. Monthly Promo Rewards take 25% off selected routes; the September 2026 promo started business at 45,000 from 13 North American gateways. DFW–Paris is the nonstop to watch, but check whether Dallas is on the current month's list. The new "Light" fares (since September 8, 2026) cost the same miles but don't allow changes or seat selection. Feeds: Amex, Chase, Capital One and Citi, all 1:1.
Avios (Iberia, British Airways, Qatar, Finnair)
Iberia usually has the lowest Avios prices to Madrid, and its surcharges are far lower than British Airways'. Off-peak East Coast–Madrid business runs about 34,000 Avios one-way. Avios prices rise with distance, though, and Dallas–Madrid (about 4,950 miles) sits in a higher band, so price it on iberia.com. Feeds: Amex, Chase and Capital One transfer 1:1 to British Airways. Chase also transfers to Iberia and Aer Lingus, and Citi transfers 1:1 to Qatar. You can then move Avios between the programs.
Avianca LifeMiles
LifeMiles adds no fuel surcharges, but it has devalued repeatedly, most recently in April 2026. Star business to Europe now prices around 70,000–92,400 miles one-way. LifeMiles is also useful for Lufthansa DFW–Frankfurt. Feeds: Amex, Capital One, Citi and Bilt, all 1:1. Chase doesn't transfer to LifeMiles.
Sweet spots from Dallas
- Partner business on AAdvantage for 57,500. Iberia to Madrid or Finnair to Helsinki in business, booked with Citi points moved to AAdvantage. You get a fixed price instead of dynamic pricing, and Iberia's fees are modest. Avoid using AAdvantage for British Airways if you want to keep cash costs down.
- Flying Blue Promo Rewards to Paris. When DFW is on the monthly list, Air France business from 45,000 miles is the cheapest lie-flat seat out of Dallas. Expect about $200–300 in taxes and surcharges.
- Lufthansa to Frankfurt on Aeroplan. A fixed 75,000 points with no carrier surcharges, bookable with Amex, Chase, Capital One or Bilt points. It's the most predictable Star option from DFW.
- Iberia to Madrid with Avios. Book off-peak dates through Iberia rather than BA, and this is often the lowest total cost in business when space opens.
Which card to earn with
| Card | Points | Transfers to | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citi Strata Elite | ThankYou | AAdvantage, Flying Blue, Qatar Avios, LifeMiles, Turkish | DFW flyers who want AA miles |
| Amex Platinum | Membership Rewards | Flying Blue, Aeroplan, BA/Iberia Avios, LifeMiles, Delta | Air France and Lufthansa awards, plus lounges |
| Chase Sapphire Reserve | Ultimate Rewards | Aeroplan, Flying Blue, Iberia/BA Avios, United | One card covering three alliances |
| Capital One Venture X | Capital One miles | Aeroplan, Flying Blue, Avios, LifeMiles, Turkish, Finnair | Simple 2x earning on everything |
| Citi AAdvantage Executive | AAdvantage miles | (earns AA miles directly) | Heavy AA flyers who use Admirals Club |
Bilt also transfers 1:1 to AAdvantage, Aeroplan and Flying Blue. See the Bilt guide.
Taxes & surcharges
- Aeroplan and LifeMiles: no carrier-imposed surcharges, just government taxes.
- Iberia Avios: low surcharges. This is why Iberia beats BA for the same oneworld seat.
- British Airways Avios: transatlantic business awards on BA can carry $600–$1,000+ in fees. Avoid them.
- Flying Blue: about $200–300 one-way in business on Air France and KLM.
- Leaving London: the UK's Air Passenger Duty is steep in premium cabins. A return via Madrid, Paris or Dublin usually costs less in cash.
FAQ
Is there a nonstop from Dallas to Europe on points? Yes, several. In winter 2026–27, DFW has year-round nonstops to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Dublin, Rome, Madrid, Helsinki and Istanbul. AAdvantage, Avios, Flying Blue and Aeroplan can each book at least one of them.
Which points are best for a Dallas flyer going to Europe? Citi ThankYou or Bilt, if you want AAdvantage miles for American's hub. If you'd rather keep options open across alliances, Amex and Chase cover Flying Blue, Aeroplan and Avios.
How many points for business class from DFW to Europe? Roughly 45,000–60,000 Flying Blue miles, 57,500 AAdvantage miles on partners, or 75,000 Aeroplan points one-way, plus taxes. American's own business seats are dynamic and often cost more.
Can I fly Lufthansa First from Dallas on points? Not right now. Lufthansa stopped releasing First award seats to partner programs on June 1, 2026, and none had returned as of mid-September 2026.
Should I avoid British Airways from DFW? Avoid it for award bookings, not as an airline. BA charges high surcharges on its own long-haul awards. Book Iberia, Finnair or American's own flights instead.
