The Capital One Venture X is the premium travel card that broke the "premium travel card" price. For a $395 annual fee — hundreds less than the Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum — it hands you a $300 travel credit, 10,000 anniversary miles, unlimited lounge access, and simple 2x-everywhere earning on Capital One's full transfer program. Do the math on the built-in credits and the card comes close to paying for itself before you've earned a single mile.

What the points are worth
We value Capital One miles at 1.85¢ each. They transfer 1:1 to a strong bench of airline partners — Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways/Qatar Avios, Aeroplan, Turkish, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore, EVA and more — plus hotels Wyndham and Accor (at 2:1). You also always have a 1¢ floor: any mile can be used to erase a travel purchase or booked through Capital One Travel at a penny each, so you never redeem below cash value.
A 75,000-mile bonus is therefore worth:
- $750 as a statement credit against travel (the floor) ·
- $750 booked through Capital One Travel ·
- ~$1,390 transferred to a partner for a well-chosen award.
Where your points can go
The Venture X's miles transfer to these airline and hotel programs — tap any partner to see how to use those miles, what they're worth, and the best redemptions:
Airline transfer partners Air Canada Aeroplan · Air France/KLM Flying Blue · Avianca LifeMiles · British Airways/Qatar Avios · Cathay Asia Miles · Emirates Skywards · Etihad Guest · EVA Air · Qantas Frequent Flyer · Singapore KrisFlyer · Turkish Miles&Smiles · Virgin Atlantic
Hotel transfer partners Wyndham Rewards · Accor Live Limitless · Choice Privileges

Earning rates
| Rate | Category |
|---|---|
| 10x | Hotels & rental cars booked through Capital One Travel |
| 5x | Flights & vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel |
| 2x | Everything else — every purchase, everywhere |
| 1x | (there is no 1x tier — the card earns 2x on all other spend) |
The headline is that 2x flat rate. At 1.85¢/mile, 2x = an effective 3.7% back in travel on every purchase, with no categories to track and no quarterly activations. That is the simplest strong-earning card in the premium tier.
Benefits & credits
Credits and perks below are current-but-verify — Capital One changes amounts and terms often, so confirm each figure on the issuer's page before you count on it.
- $300 annual Capital One Travel credit — applies to bookings made in the Capital One Travel portal. Used in full, it drops the net fee to just $95.
- 10,000 anniversary miles every year — worth $100 at the 1¢ floor and ~$185 at our 1.85¢ valuation. Stack it with the $300 credit and the card offsets most or all of the $395 fee before any spend.
- Unlimited Priority Pass lounge access — for you and guests.
- Capital One Lounges — access to Capital One's own growing lounge network (Dallas, Denver, Washington-Dulles and expanding), plus Landing partner-lounge spots.
- Free authorized users — who also get lounge access. This is rare and valuable: add family members at no cost and each gets their own Priority Pass and Capital One Lounge entry.
- Global Entry / TSA PreCheck credit — up to $120 every ~4 years.
- No foreign transaction fees.
- Cell phone protection, primary auto rental collision coverage, and travel/trip protections (verify current terms).
- Hertz President's Circle status and other transfer/travel perks (offers rotate — check the benefits page).
Best uses (sweet spots), with examples
Every redemption below uses the same formula: (cash price − taxes) ÷ miles × 100 = cents per mile (CPP).
1. Transatlantic business class via Flying Blue.
Transfer 50,000 miles to Air France/KLM for a lie-flat seat that sells for ~$4,000, paying ~$250 in taxes/surcharges.
(4,000 − 250) ÷ 50,000 × 100 = 7.5¢ per mile. One trip like this returns the annual fee several times over.
2. Aeroplan with no fuel surcharges.
Transfer 60,000 miles to Air Canada Aeroplan for a Star Alliance business seat worth ~$4,200, paying ~$200 in taxes.
(4,200 − 200) ÷ 60,000 × 100 = 6.67¢ per mile.
3. Avios short-haul via British Airways / Qatar.
Move miles to Avios for a cheap nonstop that would cost ~$180 cash at 9,000 Avios + $12 taxes.
(180 − 12) ÷ 9,000 × 100 = 1.87¢ per mile — beating the floor on even a simple economy hop.
4. Wyndham for flat-rate hotels & villas.
Transfer at 2:1 (20,000 miles → 10,000 Wyndham points) for an all-inclusive or a 2-bedroom Vacasa villa listing at ~$300/night.
300 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 3.0¢ per Wyndham point, i.e. 1.5¢ per Capital One mile after the 2:1 ratio — still ahead of a cash-erase.
5. The simple floor: erase any travel charge.
Book a $600 flight on the card, then redeem 60,000 miles to wipe it: 600 ÷ 60,000 × 100 = 1.0¢. No research, no blackout dates — your guaranteed baseline.
Fine print worth knowing
- The $300 travel credit is portal-only (Capital One Travel), not any-travel — factor the portal's pricing before you count on it.
- Anniversary miles post on your account anniversary, not calendar year one.
- Capital One's application rules are their own (they watch total new accounts and inquiries); there's no formal "5/24," but heavy recent applications can still hurt.
- Transfer ratios are 1:1 for most airlines but 2:1 for Wyndham and Accor — always confirm the live ratio before you move miles, and only transfer once you've confirmed award space.
- Miles don't expire while the account is open; transferred miles then follow the partner's rules.
Who should get it
Get the Venture X if you want lounge access and premium travel protection without a $550–$795 fee, prefer flat 2x earning over juggling categories, and will use the Priority Pass and Capital One Lounges — especially if free authorized users with their own lounge access is valuable to your household.
Compare with the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you'll use Chase's Points Boost and larger (but pricier) credit stack, or the Chase Sapphire Preferred if you want the same transfer ecosystem for a $95 fee without lounges. If you like Capital One's program but don't need lounges, the Venture Rewards gives you the same 2x miles for $95.
Bottom line
The Venture X is the best-value premium travel card for most travelers: the $300 credit plus 10,000 anniversary miles offset most or all of the $395 fee, unlimited lounge access is genuinely useful, and flat 2x on Capital One's transfer program makes it a card you can put every purchase on without thinking. Pair it with a partner-award mindset and 3.7%-in-travel everyday earning quietly funds real trips.
