For most travelers, yes. The Capital One Venture X costs $395, and the $300 Capital One Travel credit plus 10,000 anniversary miles give most of that back before you swipe it once. What you're really deciding is whether you'll book at least $300 a year through Capital One's travel portal. The card got worse for families on February 1, 2026, when free lounge guests and free authorized-user lounge access ended, so a household that travels together should price those fees in.

Quick answer
- Worth it if: you'll book $300 a year through Capital One Travel, want lounge access for yourself, and like earning 2x miles on everything.
- Not worth it if: you never use bank travel portals, or you mainly want lounges for a family. Guests and authorized users now pay.
- Break-even: use the $300 portal credit and the card costs $95, which the 10,000 anniversary miles ($100 at the 1¢ floor) cover. Lounges and 2x earning are profit.
- Better alternative: the Venture Rewards ($95) if you don't want lounges, or the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you want Sapphire Lounges with free guests.

What you pay
- Annual fee: $395.
- Lounge guests (since February 1, 2026): $35 per Priority Pass guest; $45 per adult and $25 per child at Capital One Lounges. Spending $75,000 in a calendar year unlocks two free guests at Capital One Lounges and one at Landings.
- Authorized users: free to add, but lounge access costs $125 a year each (up to four).
- Portal dependence: the $300 credit only works on Capital One Travel bookings, so compare the portal price with booking direct.
The welcome offer is 75,000 miles after $4,000 in 3 months, about $1,390 at our 1.85¢ valuation or $750 at the 1¢ floor.

Earning is 10x on hotels and rental cars and 5x on flights and vacation rentals through Capital One Travel, and 2x on everything else. We value Capital One miles at 1.85¢, so 2x is about 3.7% back in travel on every purchase, with a 1¢ floor for erasing any travel charge. Miles transfer 1:1 to partners including Air France-KLM Flying Blue, Air Canada Aeroplan, Avianca LifeMiles, British Airways, Turkish and Singapore. No foreign transaction fees.
The math for three people
Lounge visits are counted at a conservative $30 each.
1. Light traveler: two round trips a year.
- Portal credit: $250 (assumes portal prices cost you a little versus booking direct)
- Anniversary miles at the 1¢ floor: $100
- Lounges: 4 visits × $30 = $120
- Total $470 against $395: up $75. If you never book through the portal, it's $220, down $175, and the $95 Venture Rewards is the better card.
2. Regular flyer: six to eight trips, solo.
- Portal credit $300, anniversary miles at our valuation $185
- Lounges: 10 visits × $30 = $300
- Total $785 against $395: up $390. Add 2x on $25,000 of everyday spending (50,000 miles, about $925 at 1.85¢) and it's one of the best-value cards you can hold.
3. Road warrior: 20-plus trips.
- Portal credit $300, anniversary miles $185
- Lounges: 30 visits × $30 = $900
- Total $1,385 against $395: up $990. The limit for this person is lounge coverage, not cost: Capital One Lounges exist at only a handful of airports (DFW, Denver, Dulles, JFK, Las Vegas, plus Landings at LaGuardia and Reagan National). Check Capital One lounge locations.
The family adjustment. A couple with two kids visiting a Capital One Lounge pays $45 + $25 + $25 = $95 per visit in guest fees. Making your partner an authorized user with lounge access costs $125 a year instead, which pays off after about three visits together.
Compared with alternatives
- Capital One Venture Rewards ($95): same 2x on everything and the same transfer partners, no lounges, no $300 credit. If you won't use the portal, this is the smarter buy.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795): two free guests at Sapphire Lounges, primary rental-car coverage, 3x dining and Hyatt and United as transfer partners. Costs about $245 more a year net for a typical user (about $240 vs. $0). Compare: Venture X vs Sapphire Reserve.
- Amex Platinum ($895): Centurion Lounges on any airline and 10 Delta Sky Club visits, but 1x on everyday spending and a long list of credits to manage. Compare: Venture X vs Amex Platinum.
- Citi Strata Elite ($595): Priority Pass with up to two guests included, plus four Admirals Club passes a year. A better fit for families who use Priority Pass. See Venture X vs Citi Strata Elite.
FAQ
Is the Venture X still worth it after the February 2026 changes? For solo travelers, yes. The $300 portal credit and 10,000 anniversary miles still cover most or all of the $395 fee. Families lost the most: Priority Pass guests now cost $35, Capital One Lounge guests $45 per adult and $25 per child, and authorized-user lounge access costs $125 a year each.
Do I have to use Capital One Travel to get the $300 credit? Yes. It only applies to bookings made through Capital One Travel. Compare the portal price with the airline or hotel's own site before you book.
What are the 10,000 anniversary miles worth? At least $100, because you can use miles to erase travel purchases at 1¢ each. Transferred to an airline partner they're worth more; we value them at about $185.
Does the Venture X get me into Chase Sapphire Lounges? No. Since August 15, 2026 Sapphire Lounges no longer accept Priority Pass from other banks' cards. You get Priority Pass lounges and Capital One's own lounges and Landings.
Can I get free guests? Only after spending $75,000 on the card in a calendar year, which unlocks two free guests at Capital One Lounges and one at Landings. Otherwise guests pay.
Is the Venture X better than the Venture Rewards? If you'll use the $300 portal credit, usually yes. The Venture X costs $300 more, the credit gives that $300 back, and the 10,000 anniversary miles plus lounge access are extra. If you'd never book through Capital One Travel, the $95 Venture Rewards earns the same 2x and costs less.
