Why beach trips are the smartest points play
Long-haul suites are thrilling but rare — you might book one a year, if space cooperates. Beach routes are the opposite: low point prices, tons of availability, and you fly them again and again. 1) Hawaii for 7,500–15,000 Turkish miles — the best deal in domestic travel. United to Hawaii runs ~$1,100 in the premium cabin; Turkish prices it at 15,000 miles + $5.60 (economy is a stunning 7,500):

When to book & how to find space
- Beach space is abundant — but book Hawaii early in peak windows. Winter holidays and spring break tighten up; shoulder seasons are wide open.
- Turkish requires patience. Search United space on United.com, then book through Turkish (often by phone). The Hawaii guide covers the workaround.
- Chase the Companion Pass early in the year. Earning it in January maximizes the "almost two full years" of free companion travel.
- Mexico rewards flexibility. Southwest and JetBlue prices float with cash fares, so shifting a day or two can cut the point cost meaningfully.
- These are fixed-value friendly. Southwest and JetBlue points buy a set fraction of the cash fare, so redeem when fares are high to beat the baseline.
FAQ
Are these really cheaper than the long-haul suites? Yes — and that's the point. A Hawaii economy seat is 7,500 miles; a Caribbean Mint seat is 45,000. You'll book these several times for the miles one first-class suite costs.
Best redemption for a family? The Southwest Companion Pass — one companion flies free on every trip for up to two years — and Turkish to Hawaii for how little each seat costs.
