Best Credit Cards & Lounge Access for San Jose (SJC) Flyers

By Krit · Updated · How we research

Lounge access rules change often — confirm in the lounge's app or the card's benefits page before you fly.

San Jose is a Southwest and Alaska airport with no hub airline, and SJC lounge access comes down to one lounge: The Club SJC in Terminal A, which takes Priority Pass and sells day passes. There's no Centurion Lounge at SJC and no airline club, so the best credit card for San Jose flyers is simply the cheapest one with Priority Pass, unless you fly out of SFO often.

Quick answer

  • Best value for Priority Pass SJC: Capital One Venture X — $395 gets you into The Club SJC (there's no Capital One Lounge at SJC)
  • Best overall for SJC lounge access: any Priority Pass card works the same here. Amex Platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve only make sense if you also use the Centurion at SFO or Chase's Sapphire Lounges elsewhere
  • Best for frequent Southwest and Alaska flyers: a Priority Pass card. No airline card gets you a lounge at SJC
  • No Centurion, Chase Sapphire or airline lounges at SJC

Airport snapshot

SJC has two terminals side by side. Terminal A has American, Delta, United, Frontier and Volaris; Terminal B has Southwest, Alaska, Hawaiian and ZIPAIR. Southwest carries the most passengers. The only lounge is in Terminal A at gate 15, right by the airside walkway into Terminal B.

Where to go by terminal

Terminal Airlines Lounges there
Terminal A American, Delta, United, Frontier, Volaris The Club SJC (gate A15); smaller room near A8 (status unclear)
Terminal B Southwest, Alaska, Hawaiian, ZIPAIR None

The terminals connect airside by a walkway near gates 16 and 17, so Southwest and Alaska flyers in Terminal B can walk to The Club SJC after security.

San Francisco (SFO): About 35 miles north, SFO has the Bay Area's real lounge lineup: a Centurion Lounge, United Clubs and Polaris, an Alaska Lounge and several Priority Pass lounges. See our SFO airport lounges guide. Oakland has one Escape Lounge — see OAK airport lounges.

Lounges at SJC

There's no Centurion Lounge at SJC, and no American, Delta, United or Alaska club.

The Club SJC (gate A15)

  • Location: Terminal A, level 3, across from gate 15, between Terminals A and B.
  • Access: Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, or anyone who buys a day pass ($60 per the airport, with a AAA discount), on any airline and in any class. Airline lounge memberships aren't accepted. Day passes can be booked up to 6 hours before your flight.
  • Guest policy: Set by your Priority Pass membership: Amex Platinum, Sapphire Reserve and Citi Strata Elite include two free guests; Venture X charges $35 per guest.
  • Best for: Anyone with a Priority Pass card. It offers snacks, beer, wine and spirits, and showers, though it's a modest space.

The Club SJC (near gate A8)

  • Location: Terminal A, concourse level near gate A8. Opened in 2019 as overflow for the A15 lounge.
  • Access: Historically the same as A15. Priority Pass and the airport now list only the A15 lounge, and one Amex listing shows A8 as temporarily closed, so don't count on it.
  • Best for: A backup if it's open.

Priority Pass at SJC

  • The Club SJC A15 — Terminal A. Real lounge, pre-booking available. It's the only location prioritypass.com lists at SJC.
  • Access: Any Priority Pass Select card. There are no Priority Pass restaurants or spas at SJC.

Best credit cards for SJC

Card Annual fee Lounges you get at SJC Guests Best if you…
Capital One Venture X $395 The Club SJC (PP) $35 each fly solo from SJC
Chase Sapphire Reserve $795 The Club SJC (PP) 2 free also fly SFO, travel with two
Amex Platinum $895 The Club SJC (PP) 2 free use the SFO Centurion
Citi Strata Elite $595 The Club SJC (PP) 2 free fly American elsewhere

Recommended strategy

  • If you fly Southwest or Alaska often from SJC: Get a Priority Pass card and walk over to Terminal A's gate 15 lounge. Neither airline has a lounge at SJC, and the Atmos Rewards Summit Alaska Lounge passes have nowhere to go here (they work at SEA, PDX, SFO and LAX).
  • If you want one card that covers the best lounges: At SJC, they're all equal. Pick on the rest of your travel: Amex Platinum if you connect through Centurion airports, Sapphire Reserve if you use Chase lounges.
  • If you want strong lounges at a lower cost: Venture X. $395 is the cheapest way into The Club SJC, and its value grows if you connect through Denver, Las Vegas or Dallas, where Capital One has lounges.
  • If you also fly from SFO: Base your card choice on SFO, where the Centurion and Priority Pass options are far better.

No card? Day passes & other options

The Club SJC sells day passes to anyone with a same-day boarding pass ($60 per the airport's site, less with AAA). Book at least 6 hours ahead. Active-duty military can arrange access to the airport's military lounge in advance.

FAQ

Is there a Centurion Lounge at SJC? No. The nearest Centurion Lounge is at SFO. Amex Platinum holders at SJC can use The Club SJC through Priority Pass.

Are there airline lounges at San Jose airport? No. SJC has no Delta Sky Club, United Club, Admirals Club or Alaska Lounge. The Club SJC is shared-use and doesn't accept airline lounge memberships.

Amex Platinum vs Sapphire Reserve vs Venture X: which is best at SJC? All three get the same lounge at SJC (The Club SJC via Priority Pass), so Venture X wins on cost at $395. Platinum and Sapphire Reserve include two free Priority Pass guests, while Venture X charges $35 per guest. Choose Platinum or Sapphire Reserve only if their lounges at other airports, like the SFO Centurion, matter to you.

Can Southwest passengers in Terminal B use The Club SJC? Yes. The terminals are connected after security, and the lounge at gate 15 is near the walkway into Terminal B.
