Best Credit Cards & Lounge Access for Oakland (OAK) Flyers

By Krit · Updated · How we research

Lounge access rules change often — confirm in the lounge's app or the card's benefits page before you fly.

Oakland is a Southwest-dominated airport, and OAK lounge access is a one-lounge story: the Escape Lounge (a Centurion Studio Partner) in Terminal 1. There's no Centurion Lounge at OAK and no airline club, but Priority Pass OAK, Amex Platinum and Delta Reserve all get you through the same door, so the best credit card for Oakland flyers is mostly about price.

Quick answer

  • Best overall for OAK lounge access: Amex Platinum — includes the Escape Lounge directly (no Priority Pass needed) plus Priority Pass, and the Centurion at SFO across the bay
  • Best value for Priority Pass: Capital One Venture X — $395 for the same Escape Lounge via Priority Pass (there's no Capital One Lounge at OAK)
  • Best for frequent Southwest flyers: a Priority Pass card. Southwest has no lounge, and the Escape Lounge is a walk from Terminal 2
  • Best for frequent Delta flyers: Delta SkyMiles Reserve — free Escape Lounge entry on Delta flights (there's no Sky Club at OAK)

Airport snapshot

OAK has two terminals joined inside security. Southwest, by far the biggest airline here, flies from Terminal 2. Terminal 1 has Alaska, Delta, Hawaiian, Allegiant, Frontier, Volaris and the other carriers, and it holds the airport's only lounge, the Escape Lounge across from gate 9.

Where to go by terminal

Terminal Airlines Lounges there
Terminal 1 Alaska, Delta, Hawaiian, Allegiant, Frontier, Volaris, others Escape Lounge (gates 8–8A, across from gate 9)
Terminal 2 Southwest None

The terminals connect inside the secure area, so Southwest passengers can walk to the Escape Lounge after security. Leave extra time to get back to a Terminal 2 gate.

San Francisco (SFO): Across the bay, SFO has a Centurion Lounge, United Clubs, an Alaska Lounge and several Priority Pass lounges. If you choose between airports for a long trip, SFO is the better lounge airport — see SFO airport lounges. San Jose has only The Club SJC — see SJC airport lounges.

Lounges at OAK

There's no Centurion Lounge at OAK, and no Delta, United, American or Alaska club.

Escape Lounge OAK (The Centurion Studio Partner)

  • Location: Terminal 1, airside between gates 8 and 8A, across from gate 9.
  • Access: Free for Amex Platinum, Business Platinum and Centurion cardholders with a same-day boarding pass on any airline; free for Delta SkyMiles Reserve cardholders on a Delta-marketed flight; Priority Pass members (pre-booking available). Anyone else can pay: $60 at the door or from $45 booked ahead.
  • Guest policy: Priority Pass guests follow your card's rules (two free on Amex Platinum, Sapphire Reserve and Strata Elite; $35 each on Venture X). Third-party guides list two free guests for Platinum holders entering as Amex members, but Amex doesn't spell this out for 2026, so confirm in the Amex app. Children under 2 are free.
  • Best for: Everyone with a premium card. One reviewer notes it has no restrooms inside, so you'll step out to use the concourse ones.

Priority Pass at OAK

  • Escape Lounge — Terminal 1. Real lounge, and the only Priority Pass location at OAK.
  • Access: Any Priority Pass Select card from Amex Platinum, Sapphire Reserve, Venture X or Citi Strata Elite. Bring your Priority Pass card or digital card.

Best credit cards for OAK

Capital One Venture X $395 Escape (PP) $35 each fly solo from OAK

Recommended strategy

  • If you fly Southwest often from OAK: A Priority Pass card plus the walk to Terminal 1. Southwest's first lounges (Austin, Baltimore, Honolulu and Nashville, projected for late 2027) don't include Oakland.
  • If you want one card that covers the best lounges: At OAK, every premium card gets the same Escape Lounge. Pick Amex Platinum if you also fly from SFO, where it adds the Centurion.
  • If you want strong lounges at a lower cost: Venture X at $395. You lose nothing at OAK versus the pricier cards, except the free guests.
  • If you fly Alaska or Hawaiian: There's no Alaska Lounge at OAK, so the Atmos Rewards Summit lounge passes are for SFO, SEA and PDX trips, not this airport.

No card? Day passes & other options

The Escape Lounge is open to anyone on any airline: $60 at the door, or from $45 if you pre-book on escapelounges.com at least a day ahead. That's the only lounge option at OAK.

FAQ

Is there a Centurion Lounge at OAK? No, but the Escape Lounge in Terminal 1 is a "Centurion Studio Partner", and Amex Platinum and Business Platinum cardholders get in free on any airline. The nearest full Centurion Lounge is at SFO.

Does Priority Pass work at OAK? Yes, at the Escape Lounge in Terminal 1, the only Priority Pass location at the airport. You can pre-book.

Amex Platinum vs Sapphire Reserve vs Venture X: which is best at OAK? They all get you into the same Escape Lounge, so Venture X is the value pick at $395. Sapphire Reserve and Platinum include two free Priority Pass guests (Venture X charges $35). Platinum also gets in without Priority Pass and covers the SFO Centurion, which matters if you use both Bay Area airports.

Can Southwest passengers use the Escape Lounge at OAK? Yes. Terminals 1 and 2 are connected inside security, so you can walk from Terminal 2 to the lounge near gate 9 and back.
