Seattle to Asia on Points: Best Award Routes & Cards

By Krit · Updated · How we research

Award prices, routes and transfer ratios change often — search the live price before you move any points.

Seattle is the closest major US hub to Asia — Tokyo is under 5,000 miles away — and that geography makes some awards cheaper here than from San Francisco or Los Angeles. Delta runs a transpacific hub at SEA (Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei), Alaska Airlines now flies its own widebodies to Tokyo and Seoul, and ANA, JAL, Korean Air, EVA, China Airlines, Starlux, Cathay Pacific, Singapore, Philippine and Hainan all fly in.

Quick answer

  • Cheapest economy route: Aeroplan on ANA to Tokyo Haneda — 32,500 points one-way, because SEA–Tokyo falls under Aeroplan's 5,000-mile band.
  • Best business-class value: ANA to Haneda — 52,500 via Virgin Atlantic (by phone) or 55,000 via Aeroplan (online).
  • Best program to collect: Aeroplan — Chase, Amex, Capital One and Bilt all transfer 1:1 — plus Atmos if you fly Alaska.
  • Best card: Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve for Aeroplan and Virgin; the Atmos Rewards Summit card if Alaska is your home airline.

Best ways to book

Air Canada Aeroplan

The June 2026 chart kept North America–Pacific flights up to 5,000 miles at 55,000 points in business and cut economy to 32,500. SEA–Haneda is about 4,800 miles, so ANA's Seattle flight sits in that band — while the same seat from San Francisco or LA costs 85,000. Taipei (EVA) is 85,000 in business; Singapore is 102,500. No fuel surcharges on partners. Feeds: Chase, Amex, Capital One and Bilt at 1:1.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (ANA)

52,500 points one-way in ANA business from the West Coast, and Upgraded Points' May 2026 alert named Seattle–Tokyo specifically. Virgin doesn't show ANA space online: find it on ANA's or United's site, then call. Feeds: Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi and Bilt at 1:1.

Atmos Rewards (Alaska, JAL, Cathay, Starlux)

Atmos prices partners by distance, with a free stopover on every one-way award. Seattle–Tokyo on JAL is under 5,000 miles, so it falls in the cheapest Asia band at 60,000 in business — but AwardFares (July 2026) found that rate mostly on mixed-cabin routings via Vancouver, with the nonstop often around 150,000. Cathay to Hong Kong and Starlux to Taipei are 75,000 in business (5,001–7,000 miles). Alaska's own Tokyo and Seoul flights book with Atmos points; check the live price. Feeds: Bilt at 1:1, plus the Atmos cards.

American AAdvantage (JAL)

About 60,000 miles one-way in business to Japan on JAL per third-party charts — often easier to find than JAL space on Atmos. Feeds: Citi ThankYou at 1:1.

Delta SkyMiles

Delta prices its own Seattle flights dynamically, and Delta One to Asia can be expensive in miles. Watch Delta's flash sales, and compare Korean Air seats booked through SkyMiles. Feeds: Amex at 1:1.

Singapore KrisFlyer and Cathay Asia Miles

KrisFlyer is the easiest way to book Singapore's SEA–Singapore nonstop (Chase, Amex, Capital One and Citi at 1:1). Asia Miles sees Cathay's own space best (Capital One, Citi and Bilt at 1:1; Amex at 1:0.8).

Sweet spots from Seattle

  • ANA to Haneda on Aeroplan for 55,000 in business, 32,500 in economy. Seattle's distance advantage in one award — and it's bookable online.
  • ANA via Virgin for 52,500. Slightly cheaper, but phone-only.
  • Atmos with a free stopover. Fly Cathay to Hong Kong for 75,000 and add a stop in Tokyo or elsewhere along the way.
  • JAL via AAdvantage for about 60,000. The best Citi points route.

Taxes & surcharges

Seattle–Asia awards are low-fee on most programs. Aeroplan, Virgin (on ANA) and United add no fuel surcharges; Atmos adds none on most partners; ANA's own taxes run about $250 round-trip. Delta and Alaska charge only government taxes on their own flights. Departure taxes from Japan, Korea and Hong Kong add a little on the way home.

FAQ

Why is Seattle cheaper than San Francisco for Tokyo on Aeroplan? Distance. SEA–Tokyo is under 5,000 miles, which keeps it in Aeroplan's lowest Pacific band (55,000 business, 32,500 economy). SFO and LAX are just over 5,000 miles and price at 85,000 and 50,000.

Does Alaska Airlines fly to Asia from Seattle? Yes. Alaska flies to Seoul and takes over the Narita flight from Hawaiian on 25 October 2026. Both book with Atmos points.

What's the best way to fly Delta One from Seattle on points? SkyMiles during a flash sale, or Virgin Atlantic when it shows Delta space. Delta One awards are dynamic and often expensive.

Can I still fly Asiana from Seattle? Not after 12 October 2026, when Asiana's Seattle–Seoul flight ends. Korean Air, Delta and Alaska still fly to Seoul.
