Lounge access rules change often — confirm in the lounge's app or the card's benefits page before you fly.
San Diego is an Alaska and Southwest town with no hub carrier, and every lounge is in Terminal 2, not the new Terminal 1 where Southwest now flies. There's no Centurion Lounge at SAN, so the best credit card for San Diego flyers is unusually the Chase Sapphire Reserve: it covers the Chase Sapphire Lounge plus the Priority Pass SAN lounge (the Aspire Lounge).

Airport snapshot
SAN has two terminals. The new Terminal 1 opened in late September 2025 for Southwest, JetBlue, Frontier, Breeze and Sun Country, and it has no lounge yet. Terminal 2 handles Alaska, American, Delta, United and the international flights, and it holds all four lounges: the Aspire Lounge on the east side, and the Chase Sapphire Lounge, Delta Sky Club and United Club on the west side near gates 46–48. Upgraded Points (Sept 2026) says you can't walk airside between the terminals during construction, so a Terminal 1 flyer has to take the shuttle and clear security again to use a lounge.
Where to go by terminal
| Terminal | Airlines | Lounges there |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal 1 (new) | Southwest, JetBlue, Frontier, Breeze, Sun Country | None yet (Escape Lounge expected 2027) |
| Terminal 2 (gates 20–51) | Alaska, American, Delta, United, international | Aspire Lounge (east, gates 20–32); Sapphire Lounge, Sky Club, United Club (west, gates 46–48) |
Inside Terminal 2 you can walk between the east and west gates after security. Terminal 1 doesn't connect airside to Terminal 2.

- Guest policy: $50 per guest, up to two.

Recommended strategy
- If you fly Southwest from Terminal 1: No card gets you a lounge in your terminal today. The Escape Lounge in Terminal 1 (expected 2027) will take Priority Pass, so Venture X becomes much more useful once it opens.
- If you want one card that covers the best lounges: Sapphire Reserve. It's the only card for the Sapphire Lounge, and its Priority Pass adds the Aspire Lounge if the Chase lounge has a wait.
- If you want strong lounges at a lower cost: Venture X for the Aspire Lounge, but budget $35 per guest and remember it's in Terminal 2 only.
- If you fly Alaska often from SAN: The Atmos Rewards Summit passes have no Alaska Lounge to use here yet; they pay off at SEA, PDX, SFO and LAX. At SAN, pair it with a Priority Pass card.
No card? Day passes & other options
The Aspire Lounge sells day passes from $45 online with a same-day boarding pass on any airline. The United Club sells $59 day passes. Delta doesn't sell Sky Club day passes. The USO lounge across from Terminal 2 (outside security) serves military travelers.
FAQ
Is there a Centurion Lounge at SAN? No. Amex Platinum holders at SAN can use the Aspire Lounge through Priority Pass, and the Delta Sky Club when flying Delta (10 visits a year).
Is there a lounge in San Diego's new Terminal 1? Not yet. An Escape Lounge that will accept Priority Pass is planned (TPG reported 2027), and Delta plans a Sky Club there when it moves over around early 2028. For now, Terminal 1 flyers have to clear security again in Terminal 2 to use a lounge.
Amex Platinum vs Sapphire Reserve vs Venture X: which is best at SAN? Sapphire Reserve. It gets the Chase Sapphire Lounge with two free guests plus the Aspire Lounge. Venture X gets only the Aspire Lounge but costs $400 less. Platinum is the weakest of the three here: no Centurion, so you're left with Aspire and Delta Sky Club visits if you fly Delta.
Does Priority Pass work at SAN? Yes, at the Aspire Lounge in Terminal 2 East. It no longer gets you into the Chase Sapphire Lounge (since August 15, 2026) unless you hold a Chase Sapphire Reserve.
