Last updated: July 2026. Hyatt publishes an award chart (with off-peak/standard/peak tiers) β the numbers below are that chart, but properties can shift categories, so verify at hyatt.com.
If you take one thing from our hotel guides: World of Hyatt points are the most valuable hotel currency, by a wide margin. Hyatt still publishes a real award chart with a hard ceiling, its points transfer 1:1 from Chase Ultimate Rewards, and its top-tier elite status (Globalist) is the best in the business. A smaller footprint than Marriott or Hilton is the only real catch.

What Hyatt points are worth
We value World of Hyatt points at 1.7Β’ each β roughly double Marriott and triple Hilton. Because Hyatt uses a fixed award chart (not dynamic pricing), your points are protected from cash-rate spikes: when a hotel's cash price surges over a holiday, the points price stays capped at its category rate. That's the whole magic.
The award chart
Standard-room, per-night pricing by category:
| Category | Off-peak | Standard | Peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3,500 | 5,000 | 6,500 |
| 2 | 6,500 | 8,000 | 9,500 |
| 3 | 9,000 | 12,000 | 15,000 |
| 4 | 12,000 | 15,000 | 18,000 |
| 5 | 17,000 | 20,000 | 23,000 |
| 6 | 21,000 | 25,000 | 29,000 |
| 7 | 25,000 | 30,000 | 35,000 |
| 8 | 35,000 | 40,000 | 45,000 |
All-inclusive and Miraval resorts, plus Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) and Lindblad expeditions, use separate charts β often exceptional value at the top end.
How to earn Hyatt points
- Transfer from Chase Ultimate Rewards 1:1, instantly β Sapphire Preferred, Reserve, or Ink. This is the primary way most people top up Hyatt. (Also a Bilt transfer partner.)
- Stay β 5 base points per $1 (more with status), plus bonus-points promotions.
- The World of Hyatt Credit Card β 4x at Hyatt, a free Category 1β4 night every anniversary, and easy path to elite status. See the Hyatt card offer β
- Bonus Journeys / promotions β Hyatt runs frequent double-points and "stay 2 nights, earn a free night" offers.
Keep points in Chase and transfer on demand β never speculatively.
Elite status (the real reason to go all-in)
| Tier | Nights | Standout perks |
|---|---|---|
| Discoverist | 10 | Late 2pm checkout, bottled water, 10% bonus points |
| Explorist | 30 | 4pm checkout, club lounge access award, upgrades |
| Globalist | 60 | Suite upgrades, free breakfast, 4pm checkout, waived resort fees, dedicated concierge, room upgrades incl. standard suites |
Globalist is widely considered the single best hotel elite status. Free breakfast + suite upgrades + waived resort fees routinely add hundreds of dollars of value per stay. Milestone rewards (free nights, suite upgrade awards) come as you rack up nights.
Best uses (sweet spots), with examples
1. Cap a holiday-inflated rate. A Category 4 hotel spikes to $520/night over New Year's; the award stays 15,000 points. That's 3.5Β’/point β double our valuation.
2. Points + suite upgrade as a Globalist. Book a 15,000-point standard-room night, get upgraded to a $520 suite for free = effective 3.5Β’+ and a much better room.
3. Small Luxury Hotels (SLH). Boutique luxury properties worldwide join the chart via SLH β frequently 2β3Β’/point at hotels that rarely discount for cash.
4. All-inclusive resorts. A $700/night all-in beach resort at ~25,000β30,000 points = ~2.5Β’/point, with food and drinks included.
5. Free anniversary night. The Hyatt card's annual Category 1β4 free night, used at a $250 Category 4 hotel, alone can more than cover the card's $95 fee.
Fees & fine print
- No resort fees on award stays (and waived entirely for Globalists on paid stays).
- Points don't expire with account activity every 24 months.
- Guest of Honor: Globalists can book award stays for friends/family and pass along their benefits (breakfast, upgrades).
- Points + Cash rates exist and often price well β compare both.
- Category changes happen annually β a property can move up, so book ahead of announced increases.
Bottom line
Hyatt is the quality play in hotels: fewer properties, but a real award chart, the best elite status, and points that punch 2β3Γ above Marriott and Hilton. The move is simple β earn Chase points, transfer to Hyatt when you find a great-value category, and chase Globalist if you stay 60 nights.
