If you want the most valuable hotel currency attached to a cheap annual fee, this is the card. The World of Hyatt Credit Card (issued by Chase) earns Hyatt points β which we value at 1.7Β’, more than double Marriott's 0.8Β’ and Hilton's 0.5Β’ β and it hands you a free Category 1β4 night every year that alone tends to out-earn its ~$95 fee. For anyone who stays at Hyatts even occasionally, it's close to an automatic keep.

What Hyatt points are worth
We value World of Hyatt points at 1.7Β’ each β the highest of any hotel program β because Hyatt still uses an award chart (Categories 1β8 with fixed points bands) instead of pure dynamic pricing. That chart means a Category 4 hotel costs the same 15,000 points whether the cash rate is $200 or $400 a night, so you cash in hardest on the expensive nights.
CPP formula: (cash β taxes) Γ· points Γ 100 = Β’ per point.
Worked example β a Category 4 property listing at $350/night, 15,000 points: (350 β 0) Γ· 15,000 Γ 100 = 2.33Β’/point. A Category 8 flagship (e.g. an Alila resort) at $1,500/night for 45,000 points: 1,500 Γ· 45,000 Γ 100 = 3.33Β’ β nearly double our baseline. See our Alila Ventana Big Sur stay for a full worked-out redemption.
Hyatt has no direct Amex/Citi/Cap One transfer β the only transferable currency that feeds it is Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1, instant). That makes a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve the natural partner: you top up your Hyatt balance from UR whenever an award is just out of reach.

The World of Hyatt card earns World of Hyatt points β the most valuable hotel currency there is. See how to get outsized value from them, from award-chart Category sweet spots to aspirational resort redemptions: β World of Hyatt program guide
These are Hyatt-only points β they don't transfer to airlines. As noted above, the one transferable currency that feeds them is Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1), so a Chase Sapphire Preferred makes the natural partner.
Earning rates
| Rate | Category |
|---|---|
| 4x | Hyatt hotels & experiences (on top of base member earning β up to ~9x total) |
| 2x | Dining (restaurants, cafΓ©s, takeout) |
| 2x | Airline tickets bought directly from the airline |
| 2x | Local transit & commuting (incl. rideshare) |
| 2x | Fitness club & gym memberships |
| 1x | Everything else |
At 1.7Β’/point, 2x dining = an effective 3.4% back in Hyatt value, and the 4x at Hyatt (stacked with the ~5x you earn as a member) means a paid stay throws off points fast.
The anniversary free night β why the fee is basically free
Every account anniversary, Chase gives you a free night at any Category 1β4 Hyatt. Category 4 properties routinely price at $250β$400/night in cash, so a single certificate typically returns 2β4x the ~$95 fee. Spend $15,000 on the card in a cardmember year and Hyatt gives you a second Category 1β4 free night β two nights that can be worth $500β$800 for a $95 outlay.
Free nights expire ~12 months after issue and require standard-room award availability, so book them; don't hoard them.
Elite status β the real hidden perk
The card is one of the easiest status accelerators in the game:
- Automatic Discoverist status the whole time you hold the card (premium internet, 2 p.m. late checkout, a room-type upgrade at check-in, 10% bonus points).
- 5 elite-qualifying nights credited every year, just for holding the card.
- 2 more elite-qualifying nights for every $5,000 you spend on the card.
Those nights fast-track you toward Globalist β Hyatt's top tier and widely considered the best hotel elite status anywhere (free breakfast, club lounge access, suite upgrades including on award stays, waived resort fees, 4 p.m. checkout). Globalist takes 60 qualifying nights; the card's 5 free nights + up to ~24 more from a $60k spend year can cover a big chunk of the gap.
Best uses (worked examples)
1. Anniversary night at a pricey Category 4. A Category 4 resort pricing $400/night, covered by your free certificate: that's $400 of hotel for $0 points and offsets the whole fee 4x over.
2. Top up from Chase points for an aspirational award.
A Category 7 property at $700/night costs 30,000 Hyatt points. Short 6,000? Transfer 6,000 Ultimate Rewards β Hyatt instantly. (700 β 0) Γ· 30,000 Γ 100 = 2.33Β’/point on the Hyatt side β and you turned "flexible" UR into a concrete luxury night.
3. All-inclusive and villa redemptions. Hyatt lets you book Ziva/Zilara all-inclusives and even some Small Luxury Hotels on points β often 20,000β30,000/night against $500β$700 rates, landing at 2.5Β’+ and covering food and drinks too.
Fine print worth knowing
- Chase 5/24: this is a Chase card β 5+ new cards across all issuers in 24 months usually means a denial. Check your count.
- The anniversary night is Category 1β4 only; top-ups don't apply to the certificate (unlike Marriott). Use it where a Cat-4 cash rate is high.
- Points don't expire with account activity every ~24 months.
- The card's elite nights do not stack with status you'd earn from the co-brand business card beyond the program's rules β verify if you hold both.
- No foreign transaction fees β use it abroad freely.
Who should get it
Get the World of Hyatt card if you stay at Hyatts even a few nights a year, want the best-value hotel points in the business, and would use Discoverist perks plus a free night that pays the fee. It pairs perfectly with a Chase Sapphire card, which lets you funnel Ultimate Rewards into Hyatt on demand.
Look elsewhere if you're rarely near a Hyatt β Marriott and Hilton have vastly larger footprints, so the Marriott Bonvoy cards or Hilton Honors Amex cards may fit your travel map better, even though their points are worth less.
Bottom line
The World of Hyatt card is the best per-point hotel card on the market: a small fee, a free night that usually beats it, real elite status, and the richest hotel currency there is behind it. Feed it from Chase Ultimate Rewards and you have a two-card engine that turns everyday spend into genuinely luxury hotel nights.
