A note on the category: Alila Ventana is a Category 8 Hyatt, and the pricing structure changed on May 20, 2026: Hyatt retired off-peak/standard/peak in favor of five pricing tiers, so Category 8 nights now run 35,000–75,000 points depending on demand. The math above assumes a ~40,000-point lower-tier night; a high-demand Big Sur weekend can price far beyond the old 45,000 peak — at the 75,000-point top tier the same room is closer to 2.0¢ per point. Book low-tier dates and the CPP climbs even higher.
How to earn the points
World of Hyatt has no co-brand transfer maze — there's essentially one on-ramp, and it's a great one:
- Chase Ultimate Rewards → World of Hyatt, instant. Still 1:1 from Sapphire Reserve and Ink cards; Sapphire Preferred cards opened after June 15, 2026 transfer at 4:3 (existing CSP holders keep 1:1 only through September 30, 2026). This is the primary way almost everyone tops up Hyatt.

A realistic path to 40,000 Hyatt points from a standing start:
- Open a Chase Ultimate Rewards card with a 60,000–75,000-point welcome bonus — e.g. the Sapphire Reserve, an Ink card, or the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Its published inclusions historically cover a daily resort experience — think guided nature walks, yoga, and a wine-and-cheese social hour — plus access to the resort's Japanese-style bathhouse and two clothing-optional heated pools. Dining centers on The Sur House restaurant with ocean views and The Social House. There's no in-room TV by design — the property leans into the quiet-nature angle.

The honest counterpoint: 40,000 points is real money's worth of spending to earn, Big Sur is a long drive from any major airport, and the adults-only, no-TV format isn't for everyone. Award space at a small clifftop resort is genuinely scarce, so you'll need to book far ahead and stay date-flexible.
