How each airline prices Seattle to Maui

Every program uses its own method, which is why the same seat can cost very different amounts. Here's the math for each program that books this trip, cheapest first:

  • Atmos Rewards (on Alaska): Distance chart. Atmos prices Alaska and Hawaiian flights by miles flown. The 2,640-mile nonstop falls in the 2,101–3,500-mile band: from 12,500 economy, 30,000 first. These are starting prices; popular dates price higher.
  • Cathay Asia Miles (on Alaska): Distance chart, whole trip. Cathay Asia Miles prices American and Alaska flights by total distance. The 2,640-mile nonstop falls in the 751–2,750-mile band: 15,000 economy, 33,000 business.
  • Delta SkyMiles (on Delta): Dynamic pricing. Delta sets the price of its own flights by demand, like a cash fare; there's no chart. About 15,000 is the lowest economy price seen to Hawaii on off-peak dates, and about 40,000 in first. Busy dates can cost several times more.
  • Avianca LifeMiles (on United, 1 stop): Unpublished chart. LifeMiles doesn't publish its prices for United flights and changed them without notice in 2025. About 15,000 is what it has been charging for a trip like this; check lifemiles.com before you transfer.
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue (on Delta): Dynamic pricing. Flying Blue prices Delta flights by demand, with no chart, and since September 2026 the price also depends on the fare type you pick. Trips this long have been seen as low as 17,500 in economy, often below SkyMiles for the same seat. Taxes are higher, about $20–30.
  • AAdvantage (on American, 1 stop): Dynamic pricing. American sets the price of its own flights by demand, like a cash fare; there's no chart. About 20,000 is the lowest economy price seen to Hawaii on off-peak dates. Busy dates can cost several times more.
  • British Airways Avios (on Alaska): Distance chart, per flight. British Airways charges each flight separately by its length. The 2,640-mile nonstop falls in the 2,001–3,000-mile band of the chart BA uses for American and Alaska flights: about 22,000 economy, 55,000 business/first. A connection would be two charges, so it's quoted for nonstops only.
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club (on Delta): Distance chart, per flight. Virgin Atlantic charges each Delta flight separately by its length. The 2,640-mile nonstop falls in the 2,001–3,000-mile band: 22,000 economy, 70,000 up front. Nonstops only; a connection would be two charges.
  • Air Canada Aeroplan (on United, 1 stop): Distance chart. Aeroplan prices United flights within North America by total distance. With a connection, the trip flies about 3,036 miles (vs 2,640 miles direct), which falls in the 2,751+-mile band: from 22,500 economy, 35,000 business, plus a booking fee of about $30. That's the starting price; United can release seats above it.
  • United MileagePlus (on United, 1 stop): Dynamic pricing. United sets the price of its own flights by demand, like a cash fare; there's no chart. About 22,500 is the lowest economy price seen to Hawaii on off-peak dates, and about 45,000 in first. Busy dates can cost several times more.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer (on Alaska): Distance chart, whole trip. Qantas adds up every flight in the trip and prices the total, so a short connection doesn't add a second charge. The 2,640-mile nonstop falls in the 2,401–3,600-mile band: 23,300 economy, 68,400 business, on American or Alaska.
  • Turkish Miles&Smiles (on United, 1 stop): Zone chart. Turkish charges one flat price for United flights to or from Hawaii, whatever the distance: 25,000 economy, 40,000 business.

What it's worth

A useful test: bank points are worth about 1.5 cents each when you could use them elsewhere. So 12,500 points is a good deal when the cash fare is above about $194. On Seattle–Maui, that's common on busy dates and in the last few weeks before travel, when fares jump and fixed award charts don't. For a premium seat, 30,000 points pays off when the cash fare tops about $456. See our points valuations for each program.

How to book

Atmos Rewards

Atmos prices Alaska and Hawaiian flights by distance, from 12,500 in economy and 30,000 in first on Alaska's SEA–OGG nonstop. Free changes and cancellations. Feeds: Bilt Points 1:1 and the Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature Credit Card and Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Credit Card.

Cathay Asia Miles

Cathay Asia Miles prices American and Alaska flights by total distance: 15,000 in economy, 33,000 in business on Alaska's SEA–OGG nonstop. Connections don't add to the price. Partner space must be visible as AA/Alaska saver. Use the BA or Qantas search to confirm the seat, then book with Asia Miles. Feeds: Amex Membership Rewards 5:4, Capital One miles 1:1, Citi ThankYou 1:1, Bilt Points 1:1 and Wells Fargo Rewards 1:1.

Delta SkyMiles

Delta SkyMiles prices its own flights dynamically. Off-peak economy starts around 15,000 and first around 40,000 on Delta's SEA–OGG nonstop. Delta prices track cash fares. Search the flexible-date calendar and wait for SkyMiles flash sales (domestic 5,000-10,000 one-way). Feeds: Amex Membership Rewards 1:1 and the Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express and Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express.

Avianca LifeMiles

LifeMiles books United saver space from about 15,000 in economy. Its chart isn't published, so check the price before you transfer. Feeds: Amex Membership Rewards 1:1, Capital One miles 1:1, Citi ThankYou 1:1, Bilt Points 1:1 and Wells Fargo Rewards 1:1.

Finding availability

  • Book early. Schedules open about 330–337 days ahead on the US airlines. Saver seats are easiest to find in the first few weeks and again in the last two weeks if planes aren't full.
  • Search the airline's own site first. Alaskaair.com, delta.com and united.com show the seat; then price the same flight with each partner program.
  • Use flexible-date calendars. One day either side often halves a dynamic price.
  • Transfer last. Bank transfers are one-way. Find the seat, then move exactly the points you need.
  • When to go: April–May and September–November usually bring good weather with fewer crowds and lower prices; December–April is humpback whale season but also peak price season.

Who should do it

  • Anyone holding Bilt Points, Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One miles and Citi ThankYou: they move into these programs.
  • Atmos Rewards members who already have miles in the account.
  • Travelers with fixed dates on busy weeks, when cash fares spike but chart prices hold.

What to do in Maui

  • Haleakalā National Park: The summit of a 10,023-ft volcano; a Recreation.gov sunrise reservation ($1 per vehicle, released up to 60 days ahead) is required to enter between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., in addition to the park entrance fee.
  • Road to Hana: A winding 52-mile coastal highway with waterfalls and one-lane bridges; Waiʻānapanapa State Park on the route requires advance reservations for non-residents.
  • Kaʻanapali Beach: A long West Maui resort beach known for snorkeling and the evening cliff dive at Puʻu Kekaʻa (Black Rock).
  • Molokini Crater: A partly submerged volcanic crater and marine reserve offshore of South Maui, reached only by snorkel or dive boat tours.
  • ʻĪao Valley State Monument: A lush valley and the 1,200-ft ʻĪao Needle; non-residents must reserve entry and parking in advance through the Hawaiʻi State Parks site.

Getting around: A rental car is effectively required; Maui Bus service is limited and doesn't reach most sights.

Hotels you can book on points: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort (Hyatt), Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort (Hilton) and The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kaʻanapali (Marriott).
