The Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card is the small-business entry to the Bonvoy card family — and like its personal siblings, it's a free-night play, not a points play. For $125 a year you get an annual 35,000-point free night, Gold Elite status, 15 elite night credits, and a 7% discount on paid rates that no personal Bonvoy card offers. It suits a business owner who sleeps at Marriotts and spends on gas, shipping or wireless. For the personal Boundless, Bevy and Brilliant, see the Marriott Bonvoy cards guide.

What the points are worth
We value Bonvoy points at 0.8¢ each — low per point, but you earn a torrent of them, and two levers push redemptions above baseline: 5th-night-free on award stays and picking properties whose cash rate is high relative to their points price. The full valuation logic, the CPP formula and worked examples live in the family guide; for the aspirational end, see St. Regis Maldives for 100,000 points.
The free night is where this card's value actually concentrates: a 35,000-point certificate used at a hotel charging $300 cash returns more than double the $125 fee on its own.
Where your points can go
Bonvoy spans roughly 30 brands from Fairfield to St. Regis — the biggest footprint in hotels. Points can also transfer out to 40+ airlines (typically 3:1 — usually a poor trade, but the option exists; see the transfer partners chart), and can be fed from Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards at 1:1 when you need a top-up.
Earning rates
| Rate | Category |
|---|---|
| 6x | Hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy |
| 4x | Restaurants worldwide |
| 4x | U.S. gas stations |
| 4x | Wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. providers |
| 4x | U.S. purchases for shipping |
| 2x | Everything else |
Those 4x categories are the business angle: at 0.8¢/point, 4x is an effective 3.2% back in Marriott value on fuel, phone bills and shipping — spend most companies already have. And remember the 6x at Marriott is just the card's slice; with base member earning and Gold Elite bonuses, a paid stay commonly earns 16x+ total.
Benefits & credits
- Annual Free Night Award (up to 35,000 points) every year after your card renewal month — the reason to hold the card. You can top up a certificate with your own points (Marriott raised the top-up cap to 25,000 points in March 2026 — verify current terms).
- A second Free Night Award (also up to 35,000 points) after $60,000 in purchases in a calendar year.
- Complimentary Gold Elite status — 25% bonus points on stays, room upgrades and late checkout when available.
- 15 Elite Night Credits every calendar year toward the next status tier.
- 7% discount on standard rates — the "Amex Business Card Member Rate" when booking direct with Marriott. No personal Bonvoy card gets this.
- No foreign transaction fees.
Best uses (sweet spots), with examples
1. The free night as pure fee offset. A 35,000-point certificate lands comfortably at hotels charging $250–$350 a night. Use it once a year at a high-cash-rate property and the $125 fee is paid back two or three times over before you've earned a point.
2. Elite night stacking with a personal card. The 15 elite night credits here stack with the 15 from a personal Bonvoy card (per Marriott's one-personal-plus-one-business rule — verify your combination), starting your year 30 nights toward the 50 needed for Platinum. That's the cheapest route to real Marriott status that exists.
3. The 7% discount on paid stays. On $3,000 a year of paid Marriott bookings, the member-rate discount returns ~$210 — by itself more than the annual fee, and it stacks with the 6x earning on the same stays.
4. $60K spend → a second certificate. If your business naturally runs $60,000 through a card annually, this card pays you a second $250+ night for spend you'd make anyway. Compare that against a 2x-everywhere business card before committing — flexible points may still win; check your Points Path.
Fine print worth knowing
- Amex welcome offers are personalized and carry once-per-lifetime language — the offer you're shown is the one that counts, so apply when it's strong.
- Cross-issuer eligibility rules: which Bonvoy cards you hold or held (Chase or Amex) can make you ineligible for this card or its bonus — check the current rules before applying; the family guide explains the dual-issuer mess.
- Free nights expire ~12 months after issue and need standard award availability — book them, don't hoard them.
- You need a business, but sole proprietors can apply. As an Amex business card it generally doesn't report to your personal credit report, so it won't add to a Chase 5/24 count.
- Bonvoy points expire after ~24 months of total inactivity; any earning resets the clock.
Who should get it
Get the Bonvoy Business if your business already sleeps at Marriotts a few nights a year and spends on gas, wireless or shipping — the certificate plus the 7% discount will comfortably out-earn $125, and the elite nights compound if you also hold a personal Bonvoy card.
Look elsewhere if hotel point value is your priority — the World of Hyatt Business card earns a currency worth roughly double per point — or if you'd rather keep everything flexible in bank points via an Amex Business Platinum or similar.
Bottom line
The Marriott Bonvoy Business card is the personal Boundless translated into business spend: same 35,000-point annual free night logic, but with 4x categories shaped like a company's expenses, a 7% paid-rate discount unique to this card, and elite nights that stack with your personal card's. Use the certificate every year at an expensive-enough hotel and the card runs profitably on autopilot — track it all in your Rewards Wallet.
